Heimsókn til Íslands okt 2021
Nú hefur Nord+ verkefnið Frelsi til að velja (e. Freedom of my choice) verið í gangi í rúm tvö ár. Þar er fjallað um ýmis réttindamál fatlaðs fólks í samstarfi við fólk frá Svíþjóð, Eistlandi, Lettlandi og Litháen. Vegna heimsfaraldursins fóru fundir þátttakenda að miklu leiti fram með fjarfundabúnaði.
Í haust skapaðist möguleiki á heimsóknum milli landa og nýttu þátttakendur frá sveitafélaginu Jelgava í Lettlandi tækifærið til Íslandsfarar.
Þau voru hér dagana 25. – 29. október og kynntu sér starfsemi félagsins og hvernig þjónustu við fatlað fólk er háttað hér á landi. Jafnframt kenndu þau starfsmönnum í Vinnu og virkni handtökin við sápugerð og ýmsar útfærslur við gerð barmmerkja. Hópurinn skoðaði sérstaklega aðgengismál í miðbæ Reykjavíkur og við nokkra túristastaði á suðurlandi. Þar var líka auðvelt að tengja við önnur réttindi eins og réttinn til hamingju og samfélagsþátttöku. Heimsóknin var skemmtileg og þökkum við Lettunum kærlega fyrir lærdómsríka og skemmtilega samveru.

Ás styrktarfélag has been participating in the Nord+ project Freedom of my choice for more than two years now. The project is about promoting various Rights of people with Disabilities, other participants come from Sweden, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Due to the pandemic the meetings where largely conducted online.
This fall there was a break in the pandemic which gave the possibility for a transnational meeting. The Latvian team seized the opportunity and came to Iceland for a visit October 25th – 29th. They learned about the services provided in Ás styrktarfélag, had a brief summary of how the Icelandic social system works, legal framework etc. And they taught our workers in Work and Activity how to make soaps and broaches. They had field trips to down town Reykjavik and some tourist sites in the country. The focus was on some of the chosen rights of the ambassadors in each team such as accessibility, happiness and inclusion on the community.
The Icelandic team enjoyed the visit very much and we would like to thank our Latvian colleagues from Jelgava municipality for their contribution and good times spent togeather.
